Ian is a proud fifth
generation funeral director in the Martyn family. He was born in
North Bay in 1965 to Anne and the late George Martyn. Ian is married
to Jody Sloan, also a funeral director, and together they have two
sons and one daughter; Zachary, Jacob and Sloan. Ian graduated from
West Ferris Secondary School and went on to graduate from the Funeral
Service Education Program at Humber College. In 1990, after five
years of practical experience in funeral service in Toronto, Ian
joined the family business. He has served as the President of the
Northeastern Ontario Funeral Service Association, is an active member
of St. Andrew’s United Church, the North Bay Rotary Club,
has volunteered with Big Brothers and is an associate member of
the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #23. Ian is a true "canoe-head"
and outdoor enthusiast, who loves adventure and spending time with
his family. |
| Kirk Elliott

Born and raised in
New Liskeard, Ontario. Kirk married Sue Jemmett (formerly of New
Liskeard) in 1979. They reside in North Bay with their two daughters
Shauna & Ashley. Kirk has been licensed since 1977. He is a
long time member of the Martyn funeral home staff, and is very active
in funeral service. He served as Past President of the Ontario Funeral
Service Association in 1997-1998, and is a former Chairman of the
Public Awareness Committee of OFSA in which he participated in the
development and implementation of the largest media campaign ever
conducted by the association. Recently Kirk was elected to the Board
of Funeral Services of Ontario. Kirk is an active member of
the United Church, volunteering on several church committees. With
two active teenage daughters, he attends as many soccer, volleyball,
and basketball games as possible. With a keen interest in woodworking,
he has spent several years expanding his woodworking skills. |
| Jody Sloan-Martyn

Jody is the daughter
of Harry Sloan (Patty) and Claudette Fricker (Gord). She graduated
from Widdifield Secondary School before graduating with honours
from the Funeral Service Education Program at Humber College, Toronto.
Jody apprenticed with Martyn Funeral Home from 1997-98. For the
next couple of years she was employed with Giffen-Mack Funeral Home
in Toronto before returning to her hometown of North Bay. Jody has
varied and extensive experience in fuenral service, having worked
in different funeral homes with many multi-cultural faiths. She
also spent many years working for her family's funeral transfer
service and monument company. Jody is trained in Perinatal Bereavement,
and implemented the aftercare program for Martyn Funeral Home families.
Jody is married to Ian Martyn, also a funeral director. She is a
very proud and busy mom to son Jacob, daughter Sloan, and step-son
Zachary! |
| Mac Bain

Mac was born in Callander
to the late Don and Ruth Bain. In 1991 he married Debbie Minor (formerly
of Mattawa). They reside in North Bay with their daughter Tegan.
His step daughter Jamie and grandson Malikai live in Ajax. Mac graduated
from West Ferris Secondary School in 1982, and went on to study
Funeral Service Education at Humber College in Toronto. After graduation
from Humber in 1985, Mac joined the staff at Martyn Funeral Home,
where he had apprenticed the year before. Mac is a first term Councilor
(elected 2003) and sits as Vice-Chair of the Engineering and Works
Committee of Council. Mac is a director on the District of Nipissing
Social Services Administration Board, the North Bay & District
Health Unit, the North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority, the North
Bay Parry Sound Health Unit and was the former Chair of the North
Bay Hydro Distributing Company. Mac is also actively involved in
North Bay as the Corporate Fundraising Chair of the local JDRF (Juvenile
Diabetes Research Foundation) and he is a member of the North Bay
Masonic Lodge # 420. He really enjoys time with his wife, daughters
and grandson, golfing, home improvement projects and vacations away
with his wife! |
| Michelina
Beam

Born in North Bay,
Ontario, Michelina is the daughter of Barbara and Giacinto (Jim)
Castrilli. She graduated from West Ferris Secondary School and went
on to post secondary studies in business at Fanshawe College in
London and York University in Toronto. Michelina married Blake Beam
in February of 1989 and by Christmas of the same year they returned
to North Bay to live. Michelina joined the staff of Martyn Funeral
Home as Office Administrator in April of 1997. She and Blake have
three young children, two sons and a daughter, and she is often
busy shuttling them around to theatre practice, soccer, or swimming.
Michelina volunteers with Dreamcoat Fantasy Theatre, a charitable
organization that provides theatre experience for children and families
of North Bay and area, and in 2003 she was appointed Executive Director
of the company. She and the family attend Trinity United Church
where Michelina also volunteers some time to teach Sunday school.
Any leftover hours she may have in a week are spent sailing with
her family, reading, playing hockey or enjoying family time at the
Castrilli cottage on Lake Nosbonsing. |
| Joseph Leblond |

Joe
was born in Corbeil, Ontario to the late Emile and Eva Leblond in
1943. He graduated from Scollard Hall in 1960, and went on to study
Brick Laying at Canadore College. He married Sylvia Shank on December
26, 1964 at St. Bernadettes Church in Bonfield. They have
one daughter Jeannine Duchesne, and a grandson Michel Duchesne,
both of North Bay. Joe worked for GoodYear Tire Company for many
years before starting his "second career" in funeral service.
He began working for Martyn Funeral Home in April of 1984 as a funeral
directors assistant. Joe enjoys fishing, hunting, and gardening
in his spare time, and is an active member of the North Bay Golden
Age Club. |
